Keep source identity through every transfer

If water moves from one vessel to another, carry the relevant source and date information with it. An unlabeled receiving container can erase the distinction between purchased drinking water and experimental collection. Do not assume everyone remembers which container was filled during which activity.

An invented workshop example shows the problem. A labeled collection vessel is emptied into an unmarked bottle to clear the workbench. Later, another person sees only the bottle. The original label no longer helps. A better record and physical separation would preserve the distinction without requiring anyone to reconstruct the sequence from memory.

Where different uses are planned, make those differences easy to understand. The label should reflect a supported status, not an aspiration. Water intended for assessment should not be relabeled as ready for household use simply because the storage location changed.
